Brain fog can make it hard to focus, remember details, and think clearly. This article explains what researchers know about Synapsin, DSIP, Pinealon, Semax, and Selank—and where evidence is still limited. It also covers why identifying causes such as poor sleep, stress, medication effects, or thyroid concerns is the best first step toward clearer thinking. Premier Functional Medicine strives to find the causative factors and identify how to get you back to the best version of yourself

Brain Fog andCognition: What Should You Know About Peptides?
Premier Functional Medicine |Chandler, Arizona
You walk into a room and forget why. You reread the same paragraph three times. By midafternoon, finding the right word feels harder than it should. People often call this brain fog: a sense of slow thinking, poor focus, or mental fatigue. It can be frustrating, but it is a symptom, not a diagnosis.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Some are being studied for effects on the brain, sleep, or stress. The options discussed below are still being studied for impact on brain fog and cognitive function. Understanding what the research actually shows can help you make informed choices.
Start with the cause
Sleep loss and sleep apnea, stress, depression, medication effects, thyroid disorders, and low vitamin B12 can all contribute to thinking or memory complaints. Your clinician can review when symptoms began, your sleep and medications, and whether testing or a cognitive assessment is appropriate. A noticeable decline in memory or difficulty handling familiar daily tasks deserves evaluation. [1]
Five Peptide options you may hear about
Synapsin
Synapsin is a name used for a compounded nasal formulation containing ginsenosideRg3 and nicotinamide riboside; some pharmacies add vitamin B12 or other ingredients. It is often discussed alongside peptides, although Synapsin itself is not a true peptide. The ingredients have attracted interest for the possible roles in cellular energy and brain health. That interest does not establish that the finished nasal formula improves memory or clears brain fog in people. Formulas can vary, so ask what a particular preparation contains.
2.DSIP
Delta sleep-inducing peptide, or DSIP, has been investigated for sleep. In a small, placebo-controlled study involving people with chronic insomnia, some sleep measures improved, but the researchers described the findings as weak. Better sleep can improve how alert we feel during the day.
3.Pinealon
Pinealon is a short peptide studied for possible effects on brain cells under stress. Laboratory and animal studies have explored oxidative stress and learning-related measures. A small human report also exists, studies are in progress to establish a meaningful benefit for everyday memory or concentration.
4.Semax
Semax has been studied for possible effects on attention and brain function. A small study in healthy volunteers examined changes in brain connectivity after Semax or Selank. Scans can help researchers explore what might be happening, further studies are needed to determine true effects.
5.Selank
Selank has been investigated mainly for anxiety and stress-related symptoms. Some people notice more difficulty concentrating when anxiety is high, so it is understandable that Selank appears in conversations about focus.
A practical path forward
If you are experiencing brain fog, the first step is to find out what could be contributing. Tracking sleep, symptoms, medications, and any changes in daily functioning can make an appointment more useful. Premier Functional Medicine will start with a full lab panel to include hormones to identify possible contributing factors.
